Announcing the AAS/SUS Executive Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Course! Registration Now Open

The purpose of the AAS-SUS Executive Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Course: A Framework for Creating a Diverse Surgical Workforce  is to help in the creation of an Academic Surgical Workforce that is diverse and representative of our trainee and patient population. We aim to educate surgical academic leaders in strategies, programs and policies that encourage fair and equal representation and participation of diverse groups of people. The course will feature keynote speakers William McDade, MD, PhD, Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer, ACGME, and Marc Nivet, EdD, MBA, Executive Vice President for Institutional Advancement, UT Southwestern.  The course also includes break out rooms designed to foster candid discussion around:

  • Faculty and Resident Recruitment Led by Justin Dimick, MD, MPH, and Tania Arora, MD
  • Faculty and Resident Retention Led by Julie Ann Sosa, MD, MA and Charlie Friel, MD 
  • Pay Equity Strategies Led by Sandra Wong, MD, MS and Steven Schwaitzberg, MD 
  • Being an Upstander, Dealing with Microaggressions, and Allyship Led by Darla Thompson, PhD and Callisia Clarke, MD

TARGET AUDIENCE: This course is intended for surgical leaders, including Program Directors and Coordinators, Division Chiefs, and Chairs of Surgery.
