American Surgical Association Surgical Leaders Fellowship Grant

Society of University Surgeons Application Form

The Fellowship Grant covers in part a two-week travel period and pays a grant to the Fellow’s institution of $5,000 ($2,500 each from the ASA and the SUS). The Fellowship grant is ideally suited for mid-level or senior academic surgeons with leadership training who seek a future leadership role and are at the stage in their career to benefit from exposure to a leadership shadowing experience. Participating Fellows will be able to identify gaps in their professional experience, knowledge, and skills, that, if bridged, will better prepare them for serving as a surgical leader in the role of a Department Chair, Center Director, CEO, or Dean.In addition, the ASA will also provide complimentary registration to the ASA Annual Meeting to the Fellowship grant recipient, who will be responsible for their own airfare, ground transportation, and other travel-related expenses for the ASA meeting. Please note: The Fellow should also plan to present at the 2026 Academic Surgical Congress (ASC) in the AAS/SUS Awards Session (the recipient will be responsile for their own expenses to attend the ASC).

Applications were due September 16, 2024. Three names will be sent to the ASA by October 14, 2024 who will select a primary Fellow and an alternate by November 11, 2024 and notify the candidates and the SUS.
