The object of the Society shall be the advancement of the art and science of surgery by: the encouragement of its members to pursue original investigations both in the clinic and in the laboratory; the development of methods of graduate teaching of surgery with particular reference to the resident system; free and informal interchange of ideas pertaining to the above subjects.

SUS Foundation Junior Faculty Grant Award

The Application site will open on June 11, 2010, and close on August 11, 2010.

This award is intended to support the research of a surgeon whose work involves the basic science that underlies a surgical disease.

Amount - $30,000 per year
Duration - One year with the option to apply for a second year

Applicant must be:
- Tenure-track faculty member in a Department of Surgery.
- Within 3 years of his/her first faculty appointment.

Individuals with research support such as national extramural grants are eligible, provided the projects do not have scientific overlap. Applicants who do not have funding from other surgical societies will be given priority. Officers and Members of the SUS Scholarship Committee are excluded from mentoring applicants. Applications must be sent electronically.
