The object of the Society shall be the advancement of the art and science of surgery by: the encouragement of its members to pursue original investigations both in the clinic and in the laboratory; the development of methods of graduate teaching of surgery with particular reference to the resident system; free and informal interchange of ideas pertaining to the above subjects.

Interested persons are encouraged to review the SUS Membership criteria guidelines and the Constitution for details relating to membership eligibility.

Membership applications to the SUS are accepted continually throughout the calendar year.  

However, only applications completed by Friday, August 27, 2010 will be reviewed by the Membership Committee and presented for approval at the 2011 SUS annual meeting (now called the Academic Surgical Congress).  

Applications received after August 27th will be considered during the following year’s application and review cycle.

The Membership Dues structure is as follows:

  • Active and Inductee Members: $225 
  • Senior Members:$ 160
